Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, filed a police complaint against a man named, Partha Mandal, for sending her obscene messages on Facebook. The father of the young man has apologised, saying that his son is undergoing psychiatric treatment. "It was shocking to see such messages. And this kind of situation is being faced by thousands of women every day," Mukherjee told. She asked the police to apprehend the person at the earliest and pursue legal action against him.She detailed that, first of all she thought of blocking or ignoring him. Then she thought why should she feel ashamed of sharing such posts because she is not guilty. She emphasizes that ‘Such people will take advantage of silence. That's why I chose to speak up.’ Since she fought the 2015 assembly election in Delhi as Congress candidate, she made her profile public after joining politics in order to get suggestions and complaints from people. She added "I don't want any special attention from the police for being the daughter of the President."The police must have many such cases. I just want the police to be strict with such people." When the perverts father approached Sharmistha Mukherjee, she advised him to to surrender his son to the local police and let the court decide if he is actually “sick”. |
