Yes, she is black...so what?

‘Oh you little brown girl, born for sorrow’s mate

Keep all you have of queenliness

Forgetting that you were once a slave

And let your full lips laugh at fate’.

         - To a Dark girl                                         by  Gwendolyn B Bennett.

There are so many people who have fought against color discrimination. And, there are so many  Black People  who has made great achievements.  Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Oprah Winfrey are some of them.  A latest addition to the list is NyakimGatwech.

Nyakim is a 24 year old model who

lives  in  Minnesota, South Sudan. She is the new sensation on Social Media Sites.

Writing on Instagram, she said :  Dear my moonshine dark skin, sun kissed complexion,  burn skin or whatever they might call you : You are beyond beautiful and the love I have for is unconditional because you are me.

In another post she wrote : ‘Black is bold, black is beautiful,  black is gold’.

Don’t let American standards damage your African soul. Love the skin you live in, no matter what color or shade it may be’.

Nyakim’s life was not a cakewalk. Like everyone else who have Black color skin,  she too has been bullied

several times for her skin tone.

At some point, she too considered bleaching herself to avoid the dirty looks, the laughter and for boys to find her attractive.

But the people around her supported her well. She has more than 154,000 followers for her Instagram account alone.

She says her sister’s words have played a crucial part in boosting up her confidence level. During her hard days, her sister kept saying ‘The most satisfying feeling is when you are comfortable In your own skin and when you accept your beautiful dark, dark melanin’.

During her early modeling days a Uber driver once asked  Nyakim if she’d bleach her skin for 10,000

euros. She laughed and responded : ‘Why on earth would I  ever   bleach    this   beautiful melanin?’

This young model is reminding people that dark skin is something to celebrate.

Posting her photo shoots on Instagram, her empowering messages about her deeply pigmented skin are inspiring people from around the world.

She has got a new nickname ‘Queen of the Dark’. And she is quiet happy about the name.

‘So my new nickname is Queen of the Dark and I love it’, she wrote on one photo.

Nyakim has achieved what she has dreamt of!. She became a model and at the same time an inspiration too. And all those haters of Nyakim, what have they achieved? Still standing at the same position and throwing stones at her.

Racism has always been a sensational topic. From Lincoln to Winfrey, everybody has faced racism. But they never allowed this discrimination to stop them from chasing their dreams.

The supports Nyakim gets through Social media Sites shows that the end of White Supremacy is not so far. If it happens, then NyakimGatwech can definitely be called a revolutionary leader.

It’s time to recall the dreams of Martin Luther King Jr.

‘I have  a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character’. Truly, we all are waiting for the same..!!
