Create alternate Universe - French Philosopher Bernard Stiegler

We need to escape from this post-truth world that is  governed solely by the digital media and automated platforms.  Algorithms can be used for intensifying public debates.  We are entering the 3rd era of information, which would be a fully automated age, a sort of Orwellian Big Brother universe where  everything will move as per the algorithms.

I attempted to show how man is actually shaped by the tools outside him, which is great.  But we should be careful that we do not become the tool itself to kill each other.

The web age has revolutionized our way of life, transforming knowledge, teaching and social practices.  Digital age is like what writing was Socrates, but if you do not have proper policies in place, this will turn into a ruthless power hungry machine.  It will destroy the concept of a diverse, liberal and emphatic universe.

We have been sucked into an automated world, where algorithmic data has become the new reality.  The sinister digital republic decides how you should think and behave.

The beginning of internet was very useful and ushered in social change. It has in fact meant to be a platform for thinkers, educators and students to discuss new ideas, but it has been destroyed by capitalism.  The problem of capitalism is that it destroys our lives. Marketing imposes our ways of life and thought. And this loss of know-how and savoir-vivre becomes widespread.

The smart cities that we see today are stupid, automated, devoid of any soul. They are modeled on USA and south Korea.  These smart cities are dwelling places, minus any intelligence.

"When social systems are threatened, we need to defend society" . For today the biological evolution of our body as our brain is not only determined by our genetic heritage and by our education, but also by scientific progress and its accessibility. "This is a pivotal moment in our history, which involves threats, but also the possibility of major socio-economic changes, including precisely that of freeing ourselves from automation.”

Stiegler is concerned with the effects of the destruction of psychic and collective individuation.

The industrial organization of production and then consumption has had destructive consequences for the modes of life of human beings, loss of the knowledge of how to do and how to live has resulted "generalized proletarianization, Overcoming capitalism is not the subject, but rather of transforming its industrial basis to prevent the loss of spirit from which it increasingly suffers The psychosocial effects of the destruction of authority—that is, the destruction of the superego—on politics and youth.

People are looking at alternative universes and trying to create meaning in their existence. Stiegler' argues for the necessity of inaugurating a new individuation

Stiegler's argument that we are entering a period of post-consumerism and post- globalization.

In Paris, Stiegler launched a decade long project involving municipalities and lakhs   of people.  The idea is to have really smart cities., in its true sense.                                                                                                                                                                                      Courtesy:Viju.B.
