July 1, also known as Canada’s day, marked the 150th anniversary of the confederation. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kicked off the festivities in a visit with Prince Charles, whose mother, the Queen, remains Canada’s head of state 150 years after its independence.

As a nation, Canada has developed a vibrant cultural sector, with numerous cultural institutions, a diverse publishing industry, a talented music industry, a dynamic cultural new media industry and critically acclaimed film and television industries.

To many nations, Canada serves as an institutional model, in light of its federalist structure, public education system and merit based public service. It can also be considered a societal model of stability, encompassing two official languages and a diverse citizenry.    

A country’s influence in world affairs has traditionally been gauged by its economy, military, diplomacy and developmental assistance.  Here the most 

contributing factor in Canada’s development is its young Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. May be his way of thinking and conveying thoughts into an action influenced every citizen in the nation very positively.

He made history in many ways when he unveiled his cabinet. It has been declared as one of the most ethnically diverse cabinets to date. He transformed the Ministry of environment to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and significantly mandated gender parity among Ministers.  

His courage to hit back to Trump in dairy dispute is admirable. While every other nation silently accepts the words of US, Canada showed the courage to defend. And they made it clear that they will not accept any criticisms which are not based on facts.

These fresh thoughts are coming into his mind just because he is really young. Unlike the old ministers, young people like Justin Trudeau are ready to take risks. They never follow what is     

written in  the Book of rules. If they feel taking a chance will bring prosperity to their nation and people, they will do it.

For every nation we need this kind of leaders,not the older ones who are ego centric.We need fresh ideas not the overused ones. Their new thoughts and ideas will make politics much simpler. It will  ensure  a new beginning.

Recently they have  given honorary citizenship to the Nobel Peace Prizewinner Malala Yousafzai. This shows the open mindedness of the nation and its citizens to accept a person from outside the country as their own.

After receiving the award Malala told the media that she is privileged to receive the award. We will also be privileged if we get a Canadian citizenship. It is because; Canada is a country which offers much freedom to their citizens. 

Receiving the honor Malala praised Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and said ‘at a time when the world is hopeless PM Justin Trudeau is 

speaking for women and refugees’. These words of Malala prove how influential he is as a world leader.

Also, Canada has one of the most positive immigration policies in the world. In terms of standard of living The United Nations voted Canada as one of the best places in the world. Canada has long been and continues to be a land of immigration. Since Confederation in 1867, more than 17 million immigrants have come to Canada.

By 2011,the National Household Survey estimated the  foreign born population at 6,775,700 representing 20.6% of the total population. They have an average of 250,000 immigrants per year. This is due to the facilities they provide. A nation which only has a population of 32,623,490 people offers multiple facilities for their people ensuring their safety.

While the immigrants are happy about Canada, the indigenous ones are not. Poor health, Poor education, lower income, inadequate housing, unemployment etc.are the issues they have been raising for years. This is the reason why they have decided to stay apart from the 150th anniversary celebrations.

Almost everywhere in the world, Canada continues to enjoy and enviously positive image. Even though India is the largest democratic nation in the world, sometimes the policies of Canada forces India to follow them.

As the first Commonwealth nation to adopt a bill of rights, Canada influenced all the other nations around the world. Now through their cultural, political and economic policies they are becoming a model for rest of the nations.
