Lionel  Messi will again play for Argentina

Lionel  Messi has announced that he will play for Argentina, reversing his decision  in June to retire from  International footall.

Messi, 29,  announced his retirement from international football after he missed a penalty during a shoot-out defeat to Chile in last month's Copa America Centenario defeat to Chile, in what was a third consecutive loss in a major final for La Albiceleste.

The announcement shocked the world and Argentine football, with national legend Diego Maradona and the country's president Mauricio Macri among those calling on Messi to reconsider, and ex-Argentina midfielder Jorge Valdano and Messi's former Barca teammate Xavi Hernandez sympathising with the pressures on his shoulders.

After Lionel Messi decided to leave from National team -

Ex-Argentina coach Cesar Luis Menotti says he believes Lionel Messi will change his mind and play for his country again.

It is very difficult to give an opinion as Messi said what he said," Menotti said. "There comes a moment when the motivation to be with the national team is lost, for thousands of reasons I cannot explain.. I believe there were many things he had to live through, and then they did not win [the Copa America]. I believe Messi will change his mind."

The situation is complicated by chaos at the Argentine FA since the death of all powerful but disgraced chief Julio Grondona in 2014.

Recent months have seen ongoing investigations into financial improprieties at various levels in the Argentine game,

national coach Gerardo Tata Martino resigning, and poor preparationfor the upcoming Olympic football tournament.

"Previously things were smoothed over by results. With the huge figure of Maradona too. The only way out of this crisis would have been if Argentina had won [this summer's Copa America]."

Lionel  Messi has announced that he will play on for Argentina, reversing his decision  in June to retire from  International footall.

The Barcelona forward said  he would not play for Argentina again after the team lost to Chile in the final of the Copa,  America in the United States. However, in a statement on Friday, Messi  explained that he wanted to continue representing his country as he preferred “to help from within.”

“I consider there to be a lot of problems in Argentine football and it is not a my intention to create another one.” Messi said.“There are a lot of issues that need to be resolved in Argentine football but I prefer  to help from within and not to criticize from the outside.

“A lot of things went through my mind on the night of the final and I gave serious thought to quitting but my love for my country and this shirt is too great.” The player said.

A few hours later Messi was named in new coach Edgardo Bauza’s squad to face Uruguay and Venezuela in 2018 World Cup,  South American qualifiers to be held in the first week of September.  Bauza, who replaced Gerardo Martino after he quit in July over the FA’s failure to prepare a strong under-23 team for the Rio Olympics, was in  Barcelona on Thursday for a meeting with his team captain.
